Design Week & Spring Renewal

Back to Latest News

March is when Scandinavia begins to believe in spring again. The light returns with surprising speed — by mid-month, Stockholm is getting over twelve hours of daylight — and the design and culture world responds with a burst of openings, fairs, and new energy.

Stockholm Design Week

Stockholm Design Week is the anchor event of the Scandinavian design calendar — a week of showroom openings, talks, and exhibitions that draws buyers, journalists, and design enthusiasts from across the world. The Formex and Furniture & Light fairs at Stockholm International Fairs are the commercial heart of it, but the most interesting work often happens in the city's studios and galleries.

This year's theme focused on the intersection of craft and technology — a conversation that feels increasingly urgent as AI tools begin to influence how designers work and what they make. The most compelling responses came from makers who found ways to use technology to deepen, rather than replace, the human element in their work.

Gallery Openings & Spring Culture

New gallery spaces have been opening across Stockholm and Malmö, with a particular concentration of interesting work in the areas around Södermalm and Möllevången. The spring gallery season in Scandinavia tends to be more experimental than the autumn — less driven by commercial considerations, more willing to take risks.

In Copenhagen, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art continues its run of exceptional exhibitions, and the city's restaurant scene is welcoming a new wave of openings as chefs who spent the winter planning and testing are finally ready to open their doors.
