This Week in Scandinavia — Midsummer Light & Electric Weeks

Back to Latest News

Midsummer light is flooding in across the north, and with it comes one of the most electric weeks in the Scandinavian calendar. Copenhagen erupts with Distortion's street parties; Stockholm's cobblestoned Gamla Stan fills with the sound of baroque violins; and high above Gothenburg, a new restaurant is about to redefine what it means to dine with a view. Here's what we're watching, booking, and talking about this week.

What's Happening

Copenhagen

Distortion Festival (3–7 June)

If there's one event that captures Copenhagen's free-spirited energy, it's Distortion. The city-wide festival transforms entire neighbourhoods into open-air dance floors, with street parties rolling through Vesterbro, Nørrebro, and the Islands Brygge waterfront before the massive finale, Distortion Ø, takes over the post-industrial island of Refshaleøen. This year's lineup includes Peggy Gou and Monkey Safari. It's messy, joyful, and completely unforgettable.

Stockholm

Stockholm Early Music Festival (3–7 June)

Gamla Stan becomes a living concert hall as the Nordic region's largest celebration of baroque and renaissance music marks its 25th anniversary. Twenty-five concerts unfold in churches, palace chambers, and candlelit rooms across Stockholm's medieval island.

Sweden

Sweden's National Day (6 June)

June 6th is celebrated across the country. In Stockholm, Skansen hosts the official national festivities — folk dancing, the Royal Family's appearance, and the beloved Nationaldagsgaloppen horse races at Gärdet. Wherever you are, expect blue and yellow flags, strawberries, and a country in full summer mode.

Stockholm

BAUHAUS-galan Diamond League (7 June)

World-class athletics at the historic 1912 Olympic Stadium. The BAUHAUS-galan is one of the most prestigious stops on the Wanda Diamond League circuit — watching the world's fastest humans compete in a century-old arena in the June evening light is almost cinematic.

Gothenburg

West Pride Festival (8–14 June)

Sweden's second-largest Pride celebration takes over Gothenburg for an entire week of art, culture, and community. The festival hub at Bananpiren in the old harbour is the beating heart of it all.

Copenhagen

3 Days of Design (10–12 June)

Over 600 free events across eight design districts. The 2026 theme, "Make This Moment Matter," turns the lens on sustainability and wellbeing through exhibitions, open studios, and showroom events in some of the city's most beautiful spaces.

New & Noteworthy

Exo opens this summer on the 69th floor of Karlatornet — Scandinavia's tallest building — at 220 metres above ground. Modern gastronomy with 360-degree panoramic views stretching from the Gothenburg archipelago to the forests of Västergötland.

Adam Albin — Stockholm's Hottest New Table

The three-level flagship at Gustav Adolfs torg is now open. The ground-floor bistro is already buzzing, while the upper floors offer a more refined tasting-menu experience with uninterrupted views of the Royal Palace.

Krogs Fiskerestaurant Reimagined — Copenhagen

Copenhagen's historic seafood institution at Gammel Strand has been fully renovated and relaunched under new head chef Andreas Ring Kjeldsholm Hansen, who comes from Malmö's two-Michelin-star Vollmers.
